Hello all,

Before arriving on campus, you should begin by reading through the HMC lab manual excerpts.  There are four:  introduction, existence of single photons, Bell's inequality, and quantum eraser, all posted in both Word and pdf formats.  These lab manual sections from our junior- and senior-level courses give you a summary of each experiment and some technical details pertinent to the actual apparatus you will work with next week.

We have also posted one or two journal articles relevant to each of the three experiments, as well as a background article on the source of entangled photons used in all three.  Before next Tuesday, if you can, we particularly recommend that you read the Beck AJP article on the existence of single photons and the Dehlinger and Mitchell article on Bell's inequality -- or at least the Appendix of the latter, which derives Bell's inequality.

Looking forward to seeing you,
Theresa
